Call to Duty: Outagamie County in World War II

Red Cross

Home service workers of the Outagamie County Chapter of the American Red Cross responded to the needs of the local community. They helped families locate servicemen overseas and forwarded emergency information about family deaths and illnesses. They also offered advice to soldiers' wives about benefits and insurance.

Volunteers of the Outagamie County Chapter participated in a number of national Red Cross programs. Members:

  • collected funds for disaster relief.
  • recruited nurses.
  • collected blood for transfusions.
  • made surgical dressing for medical units overseas.
  • sent food, tobacco, and medical supplies to American prisoners of war in the Pacific.
