Call to Duty: Outagamie County in World War II

Mancl Family

Mancl grew up in a family of six sisters and one brother. He wanted to stay close to them while serving overseas, but knew government censors would block out strategic information, including his location. Before Mancl left the US, he made up a code so that his family could track him. He assigned each sibling a country and told them he would send the first letter to the appropriate sibling. Mancl addressed the first letter to his sister Germaine, which meant he flew missions from Italy. Mancl's older sister, Beulah, served as an Army nurse in Europe.
