Bombers
Consolidated
Aircraft Corporation first made B-24 bombers in 1939. The
Company nicknamed the bomber "The Liberator." Consolidated,
Ford Motor Company, Douglas Aircraft Company, and North American
Aviation made more than 18,000 "Liberators."
Pilots
used B-24s in long-range missions in Europe, North Africa,
and the Pacific. The airplanes flew at top speeds of 310 miles
an hour and could fly as far as 3,100 miles. It could attain
heights of 30,000 feet and carry a load of 15,200 pounds. |
