Lawrence University V-12 Program

Lawrence University V-12 Program
Three hundred seamen arrived at Lawrence College in Appleton in July 1943. The Navy contracted with Lawrence to teach these young men engineering through a program called V-12.

Gladys Jirikowic and Leo Conrad Gladys Jirikowic & Leo Conrad
Gladys Jirikowic traveled to California to marry Leo Conrad on September 17, 1943. Leo had left Gladys in Kaukauna the year before to train as a driver for Company A of the 728 Amphibious Tractor Battalion.
Joseph Kugler Joseph Kugler
Staff Sergeant Joseph Kugler left for the Aleutian Islands in 1943. The 22 year old Appleton man repaired radar equipment on bombers for the 11th Air Force.
