Company D
The US government called up Appleton's Company D on October 15, 1940. The Company formed part of the Wisconsin National Guard, 32nd Division.
Don Schwandt Don Schwandt
Schwandt learned about the war on the radio, at the movie theater, and in school. He participated in scrap drives and bought savings stamps at Appleton's Columbus Elementary School.
Company B Company B
Company B replaced the local National Guard after the Guard left for training in 1940. Company B offered protection to Appleton and area communities in case of natural disasters and civil disturbances.
