Goal:  Students will glimpse the impact of the Hispanic community in the Appleton area and will also recognize the importance of religious community in helping new immigrants to adjust to life in a new setting.

Objectives:

1)  Students will analyze the translation of an excerpt from the St. Therese Catholic Church Newsletter from June 4, 2006.

2)  Students will list two things about the document they perceive to be important.

3)  Students will write a sentence describing what they feel to be significant about the fact that part of the St. Therese Parish Bulletin is written in Spanish.

4)  Students will use the document to make inferences about characteristics of the Fox Valley’s Hispanic population in 2006.

5)  Students will predict other ways besides providing religious services that the church supports and serves the Hispanic population.
