1. Select a turning point/topic and click on it to access background information, scanned primary sources, and classroom activities.
2. Use the background information to inform yourself and/or your class about the topic. The info can be used to introduce a theme or to build on information already covered.
3. Peruse the primary source documents. Some documents are associated with activities, while others are resources for which you can create your own lessons or just enjoy. Documents with an accompanying lesson will include a link to that activity. Print out copies of the primary source documents for anyone that will be studying them, or have students view documents online.
4. Choose activities that are appropriate for your students or relate to a particular sub-theme or interest. You can print worksheets for most activities. Some activities are easily modified for different age levels.
5. Try your hand at creating your own lessons using primary source documents. For helpful hints, see the Teaching with Primary Sources section.
