More About Roland Vogt

The Army drafted Vogt in November 1942. He joined the 94th Division. Vogt trained in Kansas and Mississippi.

Vogt entered the Army as a private. He became a corporal in February 1943 and a sergeant six months later. He landed on Omaha Beach as a staff sergeant. The Army made him a 2nd lieutenant through a battlefield commission in February 1945 for saving the life of his Commander.

Roland and Grace attended Appleton High School. They married after the war in 1946. Grace died at the age of 38 in 1958. Roland remarried Thelma Krempin of Winnipeg, Canada, in 1961. Roland raised three children. He worked as a Purchasing Agent for the Fox River Tractor Company for most of his career. He died at the age of 80 on March 29, 2002.
