Company
D acted as a weapons unit for the 1st Battalion of the 127th Infantry
Regiment within the 32nd Division. The men of Company D shot .30-caliber
"Water Cooled" machine guns and 81mm mortars at Japanese
soldiers. Replacement troops from all parts of the US eventually
outnumber Appleton natives. Edwin Ingeldew grew up in New York and
Henry Chavez in Oklahoma (right).
